Samantha Battaglia is an emerging artist who attended NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and graduated in 2013 with a BFA, interdisciplinary major. Since graduating, Samantha has been the recipient of the 2013-2014 year-long NSCAD Lunenburg Community Studio Residency Program and the 2014 White Rabbit Open Air Arts Residency. She has also taught workshops in collage, drawing and painting throughout Nova Scotia, including in collaboration with the AGNS, the Lunenburg Makery and the South Shore Waldorf School.

Primarily, Samantha practices as an oil painter, within this medium her work has explored the perils of urban space, the painted surface as a tool for illusion and visual fragmentation as a response to urban structures. During her residency at the Lunenburg School of the Arts, her next painted series will explore the human figure as a template for abstraction.

Samantha currently resides in Nova Scotia where she balances a life of farming and art making.

Please join us at Lunenburg School of the Arts on Friday, February 26, 7pm for an Artist Talk and Exhibition with Samantha Battaglia.
